Abstract

This research investigates the dark side of virtual reality platforms, specifically examining patterns of sexual predation and harassment within the metaverse ecosystem. As digital worlds increasingly blur the boundaries between physical and virtual existence, new forms of criminal behavior are emerging that challenge traditional legal frameworks. The metaverse presents a unique criminological paradox: while designed as a space for innovation and connection, it has become a potential breeding ground for sexual misconduct. This study maps the typography of virtual sexual offenses, analyzing perpetrator behaviors, victimization patterns, and the psychological impact on users who experience harassment in digitally immersive environments. Through empirical analysis of case studies and legal precedents, we propose a comprehensive framework for detecting, preventing, and prosecuting sexual offenses in virtual spaces. The research culminates in recommendations for policy makers, platform developers, and law enforcement agencies, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to safeguard users in these emerging digital territories. This approach integrates elements of environmental criminology, digital forensics, and victimology to address the complex challenge of maintaining security in virtual reality environments while preserving their innovative potential
